I am excited to announce the launch of a new meetup group in RVA – Richmond Miles and Points . I have launched this group in collaboration with Brad Barrett from RichmondSavers.com.

This is a group for anyone in the Richmond area who’s into airline miles, points, deals, and travel hacks. We will use this group to organize both recurring and spontaneous meetups. We plan to host meetup event every few weeks to bring together fellow RVA’s miles and points junkies discussing airline hacks, manufactured spending, airline devaluations (may be not) and much much more. The membership is FREE and limited to first 50 folks who sign up on the meet-up group.

$100 Lowes Giftcard for $90 at Staples starting Nov 29th

I love shopping st Staples and especially using my Chase Ink Business card because it earns me 5X Ultimate Rewards points on all purchases at office stores. Ultimate Rewards are awesome and extremely valuable as you can transfer them to several travel partners such as United, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Amtrak, Southwest, Virgin Atlantic, Korean Air and hotel programs such as Hyatt and IHG.

Starting tomorrow Staples will be selling $100 Lowes GC for $90 – a saving of 10% plus you will earn 450 UR points on purchases. You can further maximize your earning by using shopping portals, checkout best rates at cashbackmonitor.com. I will probably use the UR portal as it will let me earn additional 2X at Staples making it a 7X return which is awesome with a $10 discount on each GC.

If you have home renovations or other expenses coming up at Lowes then it may be worth stocking up on these GC.

Earn a lot of UR points every year and do what I did – Transfer them to Hyatt and IHG to stay at Hotels around the worldwide for FREE!!

Your next Hilton Stay could earn you 1000 HHonors points with digital Check-in

I received an email this morning from Hilton. It says “Open Your door” with your phone and earn 1,000 Bonus Points. hilton digital key

1,000 HHonor Points are not much but I will take them anyways. All you have to do is download the Hilton HHonors app and Select Digital Key. It will let you choose your room and bam!!

I like this Digital key feature because I hate those plastic keys which easily get deactivated when in contact with an electronic device such as cell phone and then you have to make trips back and forth to the front desk for new keys.

If you have an Hilton stay coming up check your emails, you may have received this offer for an extra 1000 points.

Simon Mall will stop selling In-store gift cards at several locations

UPDATE – SIMON MALLS IN A FEW CITIES HAVE BEEN SOLD TO ANOTHER PROPERTY AND ONLY THOSE LOCATIONS ARE EFFECTED STARTING TOMORROW INCLUDING RICHMOND, VA WHERE I LIVE

Simon Mall sells gift cards are a great way to manufacture spend. We are able to purchase several thousand dollars of these gift cards at one time and liquidate them using prepaid cards such as Serve and Bluebird to earn miles and points.

I was at the Simon mall location in Glen Allen, VA this morning and my friendly rep handed me the below brochure –

Simon Mall

According to the note this particular Simon mall location will stop selling Gift cards starting March 1st 2016. It is still a few months away but may change the way a lot of us do manufactured spending.

I am not certain if this will be implemented nationwide at every Simon Mall location I guess we will have to wait and see. When I asked the rep reason behind it she was very vague and mentioned that  a new company is probably taking over the gift card division. I guess we will have a better picture here in the next few days.

Free 25,000 Club Carlson Points using $40 Statement Credit promo with the US Bank Club Carlson CC – Targeted ? May be.

Introduction

Received this offer in Email for my US Bank Club Carlson Visa Signature card – They are offering a $40 statement credit each month in November and December when I spend $2250 in net purchases.

cub carlson offer 1

club calrson offer 2

I did receive a promo code in email that may be unique that I was able to  enter by visiting the website here.

Is this a good offer?

I think so. Remember you earn 5X on all purchases using this credit card. So if I were to buy $2500 in gift cards by paying $20 fees (each Simon Mall gift card costs $4 in fees or you may by other from CVS, Walgreens for $5 fees) this is what I would earn –

Club Carlson Points – $2500 X 5 = 12,500 Club Carlson Points (You can repeat this for November and December to earn a total of 25,000 Club Carlson points)

Fees on Gift Cards – $20 (Five gift cards)

Statement Credit – $20

So basically the gift card fees would adjust towards the statement credit and you will earn 25,000 Club Carlson points for almost nothing (other than making trip for buying the gift cards) if you spend $2,250 each month (November and December)

For me the timing is perfect for this offer – I am short on spending ~$1500 of $10000 required annually on this card to earn the annual free night certificate, so once I complete the promo not only I would get the free night certificate but also another 25,000 Club Carlson points for almost free.

$5 Statement credit using Android Pay

I received an email from US Bank “Receive a $5 statement credit” for making a purchase of $10 or more when you pay with Android Pay. Android pay is another addition to the pay by phone option similar to Apple Pay which Apple launched a few days back. It is as easy as tap, pay and done using your smartphone!!

Screenshot 2015-10-19 at 10.05.36 PM

You can sign-up for Android pay here – LINK

Benefits of Android pay –

  • Pay with a tap at store terminals or a click in apps.
  • Rest assured that your transactions are secure.
  • Keep track of your purchases with payment confirmations after purchase.
  • Instead of a card number being exposed, a virtual account number is created—helping keep your account secure

Fly Business Class One-way to Europe under $350 using this strategy

Introduction

Staples recently started selling $300 visa gift cards online and this is great news for folks who have the Chase Ink Business Credit Card as it earns 5X on office supplies for the first $50,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, internet and cable TV services each account anniversary year. For a limited time Chase Ink Plus card is  offering 60,000 sign-up bonus after spending $5000 in three months which is almost $800 in Travel rewards (annual fee $95 not waived) if you use the Ultimate Rewards shopping portal. However, you can further maximize the bonus by transferring UR points to other partners such as United, Southwest and many more.

So now I will show you how you can use a simple manufactured spending strategy to reach Europe for under $350.

The Scoop

For every $300 visa gift card you purchase from staples you will pay a fees of $8.95 earning 1545 Ultimate Rewards points. These Visa gift cards are pin-enabled and can be loaded onto any prepaid cards such as Bluebird, Serve or Target Redcard. You may use the prepaid cards to pay other bills such as mortgage, utility bills etc or turn around and pay back the Chase Ink card you used to purchase the gift card from Staples at first place.

Screenshot 2015-10-11 at 3.46.27 PM

Now, remember United Airlines is transfer partner of Ultimate Rewards for transfer ratio of 1:1. Let’s price out an award ticket from North America To Paris for sometime next year. For reference I am using Dulles Airport, Washington DC (IAD) but you can try other airports.

Screenshot 2015-10-11 at 3.46.09 PM

One-way flights from IAD to Paris are available for 57,500 United Miles or Ultimate Reward points. If you are signing up for the Chase Ink Business Card then the sign-up bonus of 60,000 points  is enough to score one business class ticket to Paris from IAD on United Airlines, but who likes to travel alone!!! Lets see how we can use the Staples $300 Visa to our earn this business class ticket for cheap.

As each $300 visa gift card with $8.95 purchase fees will earn you 1545 UR points, you will need 38 gift cards to earn 58710 UR points while paying $340 in purchase fees. Now you can easily transfer the points to United and book the award tickets by just paying another $25 for award fees.

Would you like to see what is the retail price if you were to buy these tickets using straight cash? Hold your breath ladies and gentlemen!!!

Screenshot 2015-10-11 at 4.07.01 PM

Staggering $7000 + one way business class ticket to Europe can be bought for under $350

WOW!! $7991 for a one way ticket to Paris from IAD.

paris happy girl eiffel

You will be jumping after reaching Paris in Business class for $350

Conclusion

Using the Chase Ink Business credit card and a little bit of manufactured spending by purchasing the $300 Visa gift card from Staples you can score business class tickets to Europe for under $350. You can get creative using UR points and  transfer them to Singapore Airlines to fly the suite for pennies!!

City National Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card 100,000 Bonus Points – Best Credit card offer of the year?

The Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card from City National Bank will give you 100,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 within the first 90 days, plus the $400 annual fee is waived for the first year.

The 100,000 bonus points can be used at a ratio of 1 cent per 1 point to book airline tickets, hotel stays, and more, so that’s the equivalent of a $1,000 bonus.

City National Bank Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card

Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card Application Process

In order to apply for this credit card, you must fill out the downloaded Application Form and email it to Michael Thomas – Senior Relationship Banker (Michael.Thomas@cnb.com), including the completed application as well as your income verification, such as your W2 or tax return.

This is a bit more of a hassle than simply completing an online application, and the requirements may be a little more strict than your average credit card application, since they are being reviewed personally.

This application is for use until November 23, 2015, and after November 23, 2015, you must use the Personal Credit Card Application form, but it will probably be too late to qualify for the bonus points.

That’s because you must allow at least 7 days for processing your application request.

If additional information is needed, the processing of your application may take longer and delay the opening of your account.

If your account is opened after November 30, 2015, your account will not qualify for the 100,000 bonus points offer.

If you are approved for the Crystal Visa Infinite Card, to qualify and receive the 100,000 bonus points, your account must be opened between October 1, 2015, and November 30, 2015, and you must make net new purchases totaling $5,000 or more, which are posted to your account during the first 90 days following the date of account opening.

After qualifying, you must allow 4 to 6 weeks for the bonus points to be credited to your City National Rewards account.

The Crystal Visa Infinite Credit Card is offered in City National Bank offices in the states of California, Georgia, Nevada, New York, and Tennessee, but it looks like this offer may be available nationally to anybody in the U.S. who submits an application as described above.

You can learn more about the card on this Credit Card Page and more about the rewards program on this Rewards Program Page for additional details.

I already applied for the card this afternoon and here is the reply from Michael –
