Hilton Paid me to stay and how I made a profit staying at Capitol Hilton Washington DC

The Scoop

The past weekend we spent a night at the Capital Hilton and chilled in Washington DC with our friends Steve and Joi along with their two kids. Capital Hilton is in a great location just two-blocks from the White house. I always love visiting Washington DC as there is so much to do – Mall, Museums, Zoo and for most places entry is free such as the famous Smithsonian museums. We did zoo this time around and it was good but not great.

Our stay at Capital Hilton was fantastic as Steve’s Gold status with Hilton got all of us access to the Executive lounge were they had complimentary breakfast and in evening hors d’oeuvres.

More on Free stay and how I  earned a profit and DC Fun

So, the past year I received a call from Hilton grand vacations (Hilton’s time share company) where they offered me a three night stay at the Oceanfront Embassy Suites for approximately $150 total in exchange for a timeshare presentation my wife and I would have to attend for a couple of hours. With this package they also offered me $200 voucher for a one-night future stay at any Hilton property plus 10,000 Hilton Honor points. This deal made total sense  as  my return on investment for the two hours was working out to be $100/hour not including the Free one night future stay, 10,000 HHonors points and the additional Hilton Points I would earn after completing my stay.

Basically using the voucher I  have to pay for my room upfront and Hilton will reimburse me for the cost once I submit the voucher along with my hotel receipt. I charged the hotel room onto my Barclay Arrival World Elite Mastercard. This credit card will reimburse me for any travel expenses (hotels, car rentals, etc) up to 120 days for a statement credit if I have enough miles to redeem it. I spent close to $250 (including dinner, parking, wifi) on our Hilton stay of which Hilton will reimburse me $200 leaving me with $50 out of pocket expense. But as I charged the entire $250 onto my Barclay Arrival Card I will have to manufacture spend $12,500 on this card to earn 25,000 Barclay Arrival miles and redeem it for a full statement credit. My net profit after everything will be approximately $200. Not bad eh?

By using a $200 Hilton Voucher I earned  attending a time share presentation with Hilton Grand Vacations  I earned a nice stay at Capital Hilton in Washington DC and by charging the Hotel stay to Barclay Arrival Card  plus help me made a profit of $200.
