Overview
A friend of mine recently applied for the Chase IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card that now for a limited time comes with an increased sign-up bonus of 70,000 points (normal offer is of 60,000 points). However, after he applied and got approved, I stumbled upon a discussion of flyertalk of an even better offer for 80,000 points. I have had success in the past of receiving a higher bonus after sending a secure message to Chase so I asked him to send a secure message to Chase and asked him to request the higher sign-up bonus of 80,000 points. Hallelujah!!! They increased his sign up bonus by 10,000 points, not bad for a few minutes of his time and an email.
Here I will explain step-by-step how you can do the same.
How to Receive the “better offer” after applying for card?
After you log in to your Chase account, you will see an option to send a secure message as highlighted below.
Click on the secure message center and select the option “send new message”. It will bring you the next window below
Select the card from the drop down list you want to send a secure message for i.e. Personal or Business Card. Choose “Rewards Inquiry” from the drop down menu.
This will bring you the the final window where you will choose the account number and the topic can type and send the message –
Select the topic as “Other Reward Program Inquiry”
Before writing the email always remember to leverage your existing relationship with the bank (credit card, bank account etc) You can sue my script or edit as per your need –
A friend wrote a similar letter and Chase bumped up his initial approved offer of 70,000 IHG points to 80,000 points within 24 hours of sending the secure message. Below is the response from Chase –
Not bad for to earn extra 10,000 points for five minutes of your time.
Quick Recap
Chase and some other bank typically will match a higher bonus offer on a card if you previously applied at a lower offer within the last 90 days. All you need to do is send Chase a secure message asking to match the best available offer on your account. Generally Chase’s customer service department is on the ball about responding promptly and accepting the request. This is just another tip you should keep in your miles and points tool bag to maximize your earnings.
Do share if you have any success stories to share!!!
- If you applied for the 70,000 point IHG Rewards card offer within the past 90 days, you can send a secure message to bump the bonus to 80,000 points
